Baby Enzo DeSantis Gatrell February 25 2013

Enzo's birth story

My due date was March 10th, but Enzo decided to come a little early! On Sunday night February 24th I started having some contractions. At 2:00 am they started to really hurt, but being that I was induced with Gordon I still wasn't sure if it was labor. I started timing them and they were 3 to 5 minuets apart. During a contraction I was in a lot of pain, but when it would subside I was fine so I didn't think it was real labor, also I knew that Tory had his final test for the PGA at 10:30 so I couldn't have the baby today! Around 4:00 am I got up and got ready for work, thinking I would just go get morning rounds finished then ask to be sent home. I manage to get ready in-between contractions and before I left for work I woke Tory up to tell him "I'm pretty sure that I am in labor, I'm going to work, but I don't think I'll make it my whole shift."
Troy says in a half awake half asleep voice "OK. But I don't think you're in labor." one week earlier I had a false alarm so I didn't really think I was either!
I get to Health South breathing through all the contractions the whole drive, I go in and get my tray set up to go, I am walking and don't even get 15 steps and a contraction stops me and at this point I finally admitted to myself that I wasn't going to be able to draw blood this morning. I go call Carey who was also heading to Health South that morning and tell her that I'm pretty sure I am in labor and I have to go and informed her that she would be doing rounds alone.
I go back out to my car call Tory and tell him I'm heading home to pick him up and we are going to the hospital. I picked Tory up a little after 5:00 am and we got to the hospital around 5:30 went to labor and delivery where I told them "I think I am in labor." they get me in a room where I waited for the nurse to come and check me. At this point I'm thinking that they will probably send me home. the nurse came in, checks me and asked "What were you dialated to before?"
"only a one."
"well you are a little more than a one..." I'm thinking a 2 or 3.
"You are at a 5!"
So I got all admitted, call all my sisters and mom and tell them it's really go time. They all showed up around 6:30 am by this point I had my epidural and was feeling great! I asked the nurse if we could get this baby out before 10:00 so that Tory could make his test. Didn't think it would really happen but sure enough everything progressed fast and by 8:23 am I found out that I had a little boy inside me! It was so incredible I can't explain how neat it is to birth a child! Just like when Gordon was born I loved this baby the second I met him!

Cute excited dad wondering if he will make his test
"Are we ready for a second child?"

This labor and delivery was extra special because I got to have my 4 best friends, my sisters in with me for the whole delivery! So neat to be able to share this experience with them! Annie may have been a tag traumatized, but I was happy she was there!

Empty bassinet waiting for a baby...
Born at 8:23 Tory was able to make it to his test and he passed! This was the last thing he had to do in the 3 year PGA program, so it was a pretty big day for our little family!

Christmas Day 2012

Christmas was really fun this year! We did so many fun festive activities during the month of December! We really tried to teach Gordon about the true meaning of Christmas this year, I'm hoping some of it stuck! I love that we get to celebrate the birth of our savor Jesus Christ during this special time of year! Christmas day though it isn't about the presents, it's still so fun waking up to the excitement of a little 4 year old at the sight of what Santa brought!
He really wanted one of these nano bugs...
and a bubblegum machine that takes money
